In this time of giving, I’d like to introduce something that I have been working towards for a long while. There is not one knitter, crocheter, designer, weaver or dyer I know who does not put a lot of time, thought and love into the creations they produce. The immensity of care involved is unique to these art forms that can warm the soul in the same way that they warm hands and feet. We know this. We enjoy it for the craft, the challenge and the endorphins, but our enjoyment is augmented when we do so for the sake of others.
In reflection of this and for other reasons outlined here, today Peg & Jane Yarn Company will be setting out to start a process that I hope will set the precedent for all of our future work. Colorways for a Cause are seasonal periods of giving to specific charity organisations or non-profits that are meaningful hopefully not just to myself but to many. Giving will take the form of a percentage of all items sold or perhaps a specific one of a kind colorway.
Many dyers and designers give on a regular basis. If you are one of them, join us and tag your items with #colorwaysforacause. Let this be an opportunity to lift one another up and help others find ways to give back.
Peg & Jane’s first Colorways for a Cause charity is the Alzheimer’s Association. My family has been greatly impacted by the ripple effects of having a loved one with dementia. The Alzheimer’s Association not only advocates and supports research, but provides resources and support for all affected.
From today, December 9th, 2018, until February 14th, 2019, 20% of the retail price of all Peg & Jane sales will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Association.
If this disease has touched your life, but you don’t want to add to your stash, I encourage you to go directly to www.alz.org or any charity you wish to support. We can always do more together.
Much love and blessings to you and yours,
Kristen & Family
